Purple textured crochet cowl with red border, Cwtch Cowl and Hood, crochet pattern by Susan Carlson of Felted Button | Colorful Crochet Patterns

The Cwtch (Cuddle) Cowl and Hood is Here!

The word cwtch (pronounced cootch) is a Welsh word meaning "to cuddle". This snuggly soft Cwtch Cowl and Hood is so named because it is super cuddly, drapey and versatile in both color and options for wearing.

Wear it up over the top of your head as a hood for extra warmth.

Or roll the top down for a shorter cowl.

However you choose to wear it--you can Cwtch up in it!

My testers made it in neutrals with a little pop of color for the edging, which looks very classy. I'm thinking a linen color with neon orange or neon pink trim would look terrifically crisp. You could work the trim in yarn that matches the piece too, for a clean and simple finish. I even made a sample cowl (sorry no pictures) in stripes that changed colors every couple of rows. Very versatile!

The yarn I used in the sample shown here is Caron Country in Deep Purple (a lovely microdenier acrylic and wool blend) with the trim in I Love This Cotton from Hobby Lobby in Monkey Red. (The same yarn I made my I Heart Boot Cuffs in--free pattern here.)

I think the pattern is ideal for an advanced beginner. It also includes simple instructions for changing up the circumference and height very easily.

You can find the Cwtch Cowl and Hood right here in my Felted Button shop, or in my LoveCrafts shop here, or my Etsy shop here.

Happy Hooking, All!
