New Stitch, New Yarn, New Design

New Stitch, New Yarn, New Design

Last week I showed you a new yarn I had ready for my hook (here). Today I'm popping in to show you how beautifully the Scheepjes Stonewashed* is working up. And in my "playing", I created a new textured and interesting stitch pattern that makes me happy.

One of my favorite things about crochet is the versatility of textures. Using the very same stitches--US dc here--but with a little tweaking of the stitch placement, you can do magical things.

Pretty nifty texture, huh?

Last week I hadn't actually had the Stonewashed on my hook, so was a bit uncertain about how it would work up. I'm very pleased to say I loooove it! I am particularly excited about the smoothness on my hook--no splitting or snagging--and delightful stitch definition, too.

I decided to use a 4mm hook with mine, even though the suggested hook size is 3-3.5mm. This was mainly because the yarn has a little halo and I was concerned that the slip stitch ribbing portion might not frog well. Besides, I always like a bit larger hook when I slip stitch crochet. I'm happy to say that I haven't had trouble frogging the dc at all--with only a little trouble on the ribbing.

I have also found not a single knot yet--and I'm on my third ball. I like that!

If you're thinking this is a bit less color than you typically see from me, you are correct. It's not because there aren't plenty of gorgeous colors available in Stonewashed* (36 in all), but the design just seemed to "ask" for simple color--to really feature the texture, I suppose. The color here is Amazonite, but I've got a few balls of Red Jasper and one of Lemon Quartz to play with, too. Don't be surprised if I add a titch more color later. (I just can't help myself!)

So, I'm intentionally teasing you a bit, by not telling you what it is. But I will say it is a wearable accessory. I think the cotton/acrylic blend is perfect against the skin--and it's the season where folks start their holiday gift projects, right? I know I do!

Stop by next week to see the full reveal--with the free crochet pattern coming shortly after.

I hope all is well in your part of the world and that you're feeling peace, love and joy--even if things are not perfect.

Let's chat again this time next week! In the meantime, stay in the "Button" loop with me on Facebook, Instagram (@FeltedButton) and Pinterest.
