Brighton Blanket Free Crochet Pattern

Brighton Blanket -- free crochet pattern by Susan Carlson of Felted Button
Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy! I'm pleased to introduce the Brighton Blanket in all its glory! And it is FREE for you to enjoy!

I stumbled upon the stitch pattern over at MyPicot.com and decided to give it a try because I love the texture and intricacy and ripples and possibilities with color! Sounds right down my alley, huh?

I chose I Love This Cotton from Hobby Lobby (100% Cotton; 3.5oz/100g; 180yds/165m; 1 skein each color) because it has a fabulous color selection, is very affordable and cotton shows stitch definition so well. But you could choose any yarn in any weight. (I'm working on a cowl in this pattern using a fingering yarn that is fabulous!) I even think this would make a pretty stash-busting project.

After playing around with the color changes, I finally came up with this--see how the color just peeks through on the front? Little hints of it. But look at the back...

...it is so beautiful it could be the FRONT! And the texture!!! The pattern is a little tricky at the start, but only because it has such a long repeat and requires a bit of focus. But after you get rolling, it is really fun to crochet!

So here we go:
Yarn: Hobby Lobby I Love This Cotton in the following colors (1 ball each color):
  • Hot Orchid (A)
  • Mulberry (B)
  • Amethyst (C)
  • Purple (D)
  • Royalty (E)
  • Turquoise (F)
  • Deep Turquoise (G)
  • Pistache (H)
  • Bright Teal (I)
  • Apple Green (J)
  • Bright Green (K)
Hook: 4mm
Take note of the following little tidbits:
  • You will fasten off for color changes and join the new color with a sc (see join with sc in Special Stitches).
  • The pattern is worked in multiples of 41 + 3, so if you choose to adjust the dimensions of your blanket, simply make your foundation chain in multiples of 41 to the desired width and then ch 3 more. Complete the pattern color repeat rows to the desired height.
  • The color pattern repeat is A-K. Follow this sequence at each instructed color change.
  • The sample blanket requires approximately 1650-1700 yards (1510-1555m) of yarn.
  • The sample blanket measured: 36 in X 48 in (91.5 cm X 122 cm).

There are a lot of stitches used in this pattern (just breathe!)--all in US terms...
